Whenever you buy new clothes, don’t forget to read the washing instructions on the labels. Don’t try your luck to machine wash your new dress when it should be hand-washed because the fabric may not withstand the rigors of the washing machine. If you’ve the time, you can also hand-wash your other favorite clothes to preserve their longevity.
Step 1. Preparation
Add about ¼ cup of detergent in a sink or container with the correct water temperature for your clothes. If you want to wash white clothes, you can also add in about ¼ cup of bleach like Clorox in the water. Or if it is heavily stained, use a stain remover. Wear hand gloves if bleach or stain remover is used to protect your hands.
Step 2. Soak
Then put in your clothes into the water solution to get it thoroughly wet. Let it soak for a few minutes. If it is stained, you may let it soak for a little longer than usual but not more than one because the fabric could be destroyed instead.
Step 3. Wash
When it’s time for washing, knead the clothes with your hands in the water for a few minutes. But take care of not kneading too hard as if you are scrubbing the floor which could thin the fabric or deepen the stain into the central of the cloth.
Step 4. Rinse
When the dirt is gone or enough washing is done, unplug the sink to allow the water to drain. Then let the water run onto your clothes to wash away the remaining detergent. You will know your clothes are cleaned when the water is not soapy anymore. Alternatively, rinse until the water runs clean.
Step 5. Dry
After everything is done, it’s time to wring out and hang your clothe to dry. Remember to pull it apart so that there will be no wrinkles.
