How to Hand-Wash Sweaters

You don’t need to send your sweaters to the launderette as it’s incredibly easy to wash them at home. The main purpose is to keep the sweaters in their original form. All you need is to do is to follow the instructions on the clothing care labels, gentle detergent and an empty sink to contain cold water. Here’s how:

Step 1. Plug a sink or bowl with room temperature water and add in mild detergent. For a medium to large sweater, a tablespoon of detergent is enough whilst a small sweater only needs half of a tablespoon.

Step 2. Soak the sweater in the mixture of water until it is completely wet. After 3-5 minutes, remove it from the mixture and rinse it in a bowl of clean cold water. Once it is completely soaked, rinse it until the water is free from soap.

Step 3. To remove water from the sweater, hold the sweater by its shoulders so that the water is drained from the sweater. Do not wring as the sweater would go out of shape. If there is remaining residual water, roll the sweater in a towel. Repeat this step until the sweater is dry.

Step 4. Even with the water drained, the dampness could still be felt on the sweater. Lay it flat on another towel for it to completely dry before you take it for storage. This drying process could take up several hours depending on the thickness of the sweater.
