Removing Blood Stains on Your Clothes

Blood stains are the toughest stains to be removed. That is why the cleaning process is different from ordinary so that the stains won’t get into the middle portion of the fabric.

Step 1. Blot the stain

Blot the stain immediately with paper towels before it disseminates deep into the fibers of the fabric. If your cloth is for dry clean only, take it to the cleaners soonest and don’t try to pre-treat it. The following instructions are for washable clothes.

Step 2. Clean

Combine one teaspoon of laundry soap with hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl. Be careful of not pouring too much hydrogen peroxide as it contains strong chemicals which can change the color of the fabric. Then soak a clean sponge in the mixture. Squeeze it until half dry and blot the stain. On the other hand, if the stains have dried, soak the garment in warm water with enzymatic cleaner to loosen the stain.

Step 3. Wash

If the cloth is machine washable, wash it in cool water with a laundry addictive. If the fabric is only hand washable, then wash it with a mild detergent. Don’t use warm or hot water to do the washing as it will set the stain further into the fabric.

Step 4. Drying

Air dry your clothes. Never use the dryer because the heat will make the stain set in and stay permanent. The beauty of air dry is that you can still take it to the launderette if the stain still doesn’t come off.
