Washing Your Sneakers Properly

Clean Sneakers

Odor and dirt can loosen the elasticity of fabric materials. That’s why your sneakers need just as much laundry caring as your clothes to keep them fresh and lasting. Here’s how to maintain your sneakers’ evergreen:

  1. Before you start washing, remove the laces and inserts or soles from the shoes.
  2. Wash these separately.
  1. Mix a solution of mild soap and water or you could get a cleaner specially for sneakers or sports shoes at the stores. Remember to check the label to ensure that the solution is suitable for all the materials used to make the shoes including the rubber.
  2. Soak the shoes into the solution. Then use a soft bristle brush and gently scrub the shoes, inside and out. In the next washing, use the same solution to scrub the inserts and shoelaces.
  3. When the dirt is removed, use clean water to rinse the shoes and the accessories.
  4. Drain any excess water out and then stuff some paper towers to soak up the moisture. This also works to preserve the sneakers’ design in case they go out of shape when they are drying up.
  5. In the drying process, place the shoes and inserts in a well ventilated room. Replace the paper towels when they become soaked through.
  6. After everything is dried, put the shoe laces and inserts back into position.
